FDC Company History

FDC Company History of Rescue Products was first established in 1998 after Earl Johnson (President/Owner) was approached by International Safety Instruments (ISI) to become their distributor for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for the State of Arizona. Earl started his relationship with ISI as a sales representative for a manufacturer’s firm from 1990 to 1997. During his tenure with that firm, Earl sold fire apparatus, respiratory protection, extrication tools and loose gear affiliated with the fire service. Based upon the experience and commitment to the customer, FDC Rescue Products soon became an ISI Authorized Service Center and is one of the few ISI distributors able to market their products to Fire, Police and Industrial customers. In 2005, Avon Rubber PLC acquired ISI and FDC became an Avon/ISI “TRUST” Service center and also serves as the authorized Avon/ISI Western U.S. factory repair center. After building the SCBA market, FDC began to diversify into other products at the request of our customers. This includes the remainder of personnel protective equipment (PPE) for fire fighters including INNOTEX® bunker gear, hoods and gloves, Pacific helmets, and Black Diamond boots. This was a natural fit as many fire departments were obtaining government grants for PPE and want to sole source their vendor. Subsequently FDC Rescue Products added product lines such as Pelican flashlights & cases, Husky and Fol-da-Tank portable tanks, Niedner fire hose, POK nozzles, Kochek hardware, Super Vac and Tempest fans & saws, and many other lines. Within the law enforcement market, there were growing concerns for police agencies to obtain SCBA’s and other forms of respiratory protection. So in conjunction with our Avon/ISI respiratory line FDC began adding police orientated products to serve law enforcement and correctional facilities across the State.

During our growth and diversity, FDC has added personnel in office for computing and website management, northern and southern Arizona sales representatives, and a law enforcement sales representative. We also have factory trained service personnel for in house repairs and provide service contracts to the approximately 50 fire departments in Arizona who are Avon/ISI end-users. Our sales representatives not only get highly trained on all of our firefighting equipment products, but also have backgrounds in the fire or police service to understand the unique needs of our customers.

FDC Rescue realizes that we have a commitment to our customers that every customer fully understands the features and applications for each piece of firefighting equipment we represent. Therefore we provide initial training free of charge with all new deliveries as well as follow-up training and recertification when necessary. Growth decisions for adding manufacturers are based upon quality and uniqueness of products available and our ability to serve our customers with professional training and customer care. We tend to focus on representing fire and rescue products that have distinct advantages over the competition and market on performance, quality, and features rather than price. We hope that all our customers feel that they are not just a customer, but also a part of our family.
